Dr. Richard Henry Tiongco II (University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital) discussed the role of hypertension in the pathophysiology of heart failure and the general principles of hypertension management in patients with heart failure. He was then followed by Dr. Gilbert Vilela (Philippine Heart Center), who shared the role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and the benefits of angiotensin receptor blockers in the hypertension therapy of patients with heart failure.

Dr. Richard Henry Tiongco II is an Associate Professor 7 at the UP College of Medicine Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology and a Clinical Associate Professor in cardiology at the UP-PGH.
Dr. Gilbert Vilela is President of the Philippine Heart Association, Secretary of the Philippine Society of Hypertension, and the Deputy Executive Director for Education, Training and Research of the Philippine Heart Center.
