Pharmacology at the University of Pretoria
- Professor Snyman was the Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pretoria until 2008. He is a visiting Professor at the University of Northwest – School of Pharmacy (South Africa).
- As Chair of the South African Medical Association Research Ethics Committee Editor, his contributions include MIMS Monthly as well as Various Books in General Medicine distributed by MIMS.
- Professor Snyman’s research interests include Inflammation of the Skin, Wound healing, and the Gastrointestinal tract. He contributed to two medicinal product patents and devices and has developed products which were commercialized for GI tract diseases – GORD, IBS, Veisalgia, Diarrhoea; Wound and Skin: Wound care - growth factors; Silicones for Burns and Radiation dermatitis etc.
- He has published in peer-reviewed journals over 90 times and is a Post-Graduate Leader for PhD and Masters Students in Pharmacology: In vitro and in vivo research projects. He holds numerous contract research projects in clinical pharmacology i.e., phase 1 to phase 3 for Industry. Professor Snyman’s special interests include:
- Clinical Pharmacology
- Pharmacokinetics including transdermal delivery by electro-poration
- Pharmacodynamics- Health Economics and Outcomes Research (Member of ISPOR International)
- Chronic diseases such as Diabetes and Cardiovascular conditions
- Oncology- Inflammation- Cell modulation and Growth Factors for Wound Care and Skin rejuvenation.
