Emeritus Professor at CARIM
- Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology and Experimental Medicine at CARIM, School for Cardiovascular Diseases, Maastricht University, the Netherlands
- In April 2021-2017, he was the Scientific Director of CARIM and from 2001-2012, he was Director of the Institute of Pharmacology and Founding Director of the Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CCR) at the Charité, Berlin, Germany. From 1994-2001, he was director of the Institute of Pharmacology at the University of Kiel, Germany.
- Professor Unger has published more than 800 articles on hypertension, cardiovascular disease and pharmacology with a keen interest in the renin-angiotensin system. He is a member of numerous international societies. He was president of the European Council for Cardiovascular Research (ECCR) from 2000-2002. Until October 2020, he was Secretary of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH). He has served and still serves on a number of editorial and advisory boards and has received several national and international awards.
